CHORAL CONDUCTOR

Artistic Director, Atlanta Schola Cantorum

2007-2018

Atlanta Schola Cantorum, founded in 1974 and thus the area's oldest independent chorus, presents two or three sets of concerts each year in the Atlanta area.

The core of the choir's repertory is the polyphonic sacred music of the Renaissance, especially Josquin, Palestrina, Victoria, Tallis, and Byrd.  The group has offered the first local performances of Hildegard von Bingen (in the mid-1970s) and early Spanish music from the Las Huelgas Codex and Llibre Vermell, and has reached forward to Monteverdi, Sweelinck, Hassler, Aichinger, and Bach.

Like many early music choruses, Schola feels an affinity with such contemporary composers as Pärt, Tavener, and Lauridsen. The group frequently performs in Charleston, SC, as part of the Piccolo Spoleto music festival.
